The thought of a blog has been rolling around in my mind for awhile. Music therapy is not just a job for me; it is a passion. Recently I began working at a new position and I feel that it has been a confirmation that working with children is my calling!

When I started working with children in my practicum and in my internship, I remember being really overwhelmed. It was hard to figure out how to create interventions that were success-oriented. It was difficult to figure out how to find my own “groove” leading individuals and groups within therapy. It was exhausting trying to build up all of that repertoire! Starting this new job, I again found myself feeling overwhelmed with just starting the new job and meeting all of the new clients; let alone re-filling my intervention bag with new ideas that were supportive of this new population.

My hope with this blog is to help other music therapists, from students to the seasoned professionals, by having access to resources and ideas. I think that we all, as humans working in the helping profession, can get in a funk where we just can’t think of an idea for that one group, or we are stuck with how to approach that client, or we just need a spark of inspiration. I hope this blog is an umbrella for ideas when our creative minds are just a little tired.

What I don’t want this to resource to be is an excuse for not creating new interventions or a place to find “prescriptive” interventions to apply to clients. You’re clients come first, ideas come second. So please, use these ideas and resources with your clients in mind first and adapt accordingly!

If you have an idea that you would like to be featured on the blog please contact me! The more creative minds, the merrier!
