Welcome back to Creative Therapy Umbrella! We are excited to share this upcoming series with you called “Whats In Your Therapy Bag?” The first four episodes of this series will include short minisodes with Kate where she shares her current favorite resources, interventions, and skills that she uses all the time! We then have four super special interviews lined up with other creative arts therapists, followed by two capstone episodes that will be more of Kate sharing important skills for creative arts therapists working with emotional skills!

Today’s episode is with Whitney Hand. Whitney has spent the past nine years working in mental health, music therapy, and animal-assisted therapy in the Rochester, New York area. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Nazareth University, they worked with children and young adults with autism, developmental disabilities, complex medical needs, and behavioral challenges across school and community settings.

They later earned their Master of Social Work from SUNY Brockport and expanded their practice to include counseling and animal-assisted therapy. With experience in both general and special education, they’re passionate about helping students and families navigate educational systems, access mental health resources, and find the support they need.

And we can’t forget their four-legged therapy partner, Daphne! Daphne is a certified therapy dog and golden retriever who loves treats!
