Hi Everyone! I’m Christa. I am a hobbyist photography, writer, plant mom, nature lover and content creator on IG. I’m the owner and founder of Creative Minds At Play LLC. I work full-time as Director of Counseling Programs at a nonprofit organization, and part-time in private practice at Seven Corners Psychotherapy in Northern Virginia. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapists Supervisor and Nationally Certified TF-CBT Therapist, and Board Approved Licensure Supervisor by the Virginia Board of Counseling. Creative Minds At Play LLC was created out of my love for creativity and play therapy, and my desire to share with others the benefits that creativity and play has when used as both a personal and a professional tool. Creative Minds At Play LLC currently offers continuing education trainings for mental health professionals, workshops, clinical supervision, and consultation services. I am in the process of creating my very first children’s book and e-course.One thing that my friends, family and colleagues would say about me is that I am always striving to learn something new, and the first to share my knowledge with others. In true Capricorn nature, I am an extremely hard worker and I strive hard to serve others with the highest level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism. I am lifelong learner, and teaching comes natural to me.I enjoy integrating creativity into therapy with the use of play, expressive, art-based, and sand tray therapies. Creative adults, teens, and children, and I work very well together. However, I have many clients who don’t identify as being creative but want to explore alternatives to traditional talk therapy. I am also a trauma therapist for adults, teens, and children. My approach to treating trauma is integrative. I incorporate expressive and art-based therapy, narrative therapy, self-empowerment, and resiliency-building skills, and trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy to treating trauma. The focus is on healing and building post-traumatic growth. I have ten years of experience and have utilized play and expressive therapy techniques with individuals, families, and groups of all ages. My approach to treating trauma in youth incorporates integrative play therapy, neurobiology, and attachment theory. I work systemically with families with the goal of strengthening the parent-child relationship and supporting both the child and parent(s) in the development of skills to improve the overall family dynamics. I am skilled at helping children in areas of self-esteem, interpersonal skills, and emotion regulation. I help adults in healing their inner child, adjusting to life changes, exploring their life purposes, and developing a healthier sense of self. One of my favorite quotes is “the creative adult is the child that has survived.” I am a creative, mental health therapist and a black woman helping others learn how to survive and thrive with the use of creativity.
