As a wee kindergartner, I was selectively mute.
I didn’t talk to anyone for the majority of the school year. So much so, I almost got held back because they didn’t know what to do with me.
It was Tae Kwon Do that became my safe space.
Eventually, I got nicknamed “the mouse that roared”. I was painfully shy, avoided eye contact, and kept my head down.
Until I made my way up to the front of the judges.

And then it all just went away. I could let go, and let go I did.
I would Kihup (the fancy name for yelling AYYYYAAAA!!) and it was LOUD.
I could escape my anxiety, escape my blocks that wouldn’t let me speak, and I became a whole new me.
It saved me.
And that is why I want to THANK YOU.
I know you are working with shy, quiet, or disengaged kids who need you desperately.
They need you like I needed Tae Kwon Do.
They need creative ways to engage with the world that don’t rely on speaking or talking.
So thank you, truly, for joining me here.
I can tell you they desperately want to be reached.
And if you are in need of support in doing this — you are in the right place!
We are all about coming up with creative ways to engage kids and teens. Whether it be creative visuals, courses, or supervision — this is your place!
