In this episode, Carly tells us about her own journey with falling in love with poetry and how powerful this medium can be as a healing agent. While in graduate school, Carly focused one of her capstone projects on creating a social media platform called “Poems for Patients” where she connects others to poetry from waiting rooms all the way to social media. She such wonderful information about the different ways that poetry can both passively and actively support others.

Carly is a Licensed Master Social Worker that specializes in expressive arts. She is currently a Clinical Fellow at Growing Minds Center for Child Therapy, an attachment and expressive based therapy program in Maryland. During her graduate program for social work, Carly focused her research on the positive implications of poetry on an individual’s mental health. This inspired her to create a social media platform called Poems For Patients for her Creative Arts and Social Work Practice course. She is passionate about encouraging others to utilize poetry as a means of connecting with our feelings, whether that means in a private space as a coping tool or on a larger level as a social change agent. As a new clinician, she is excited to continue to explore the creative arts as a therapeutic modality for children and their families by continuing to be an active listener of the Creative Therapy Umbrella Podcast!
